About this event

What is a Giving Machine?

The Light The World Giving Machine is a popular and visible part of the Light The World initiative sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are unique red vending machines that provide a fun and memorable way for the public to purchase much-needed items for charities that serve those in need.

This year, the Giving Machine will be in more than 50 cities worldwide. Since the debut of the first Giving Machine in 2017, hundreds of thousands of people have visited, contributing over $22 million (USD).

How Do They Work?

The Light The World Giving Machine is a vending machine with cards representing items needed by global and local nonprofit organizations. Guests will be able to choose from a variety of options such as personal hygiene products, children’s toys, shoes, bedding, hot meals, and the ever-popular livestock (chickens, and goats). Item prices range from $5 to $100+ for donation items. Purchased item cards drop into an enclosed display bin. The generous donor then leaves with a digital receipt and a feeling of joy and gratitude that no candy bar can ever provide.
