Learn About Your Ancestors and the Life of a Pioneer
Come and learn to make butter; bring a picture of a pioneer relative, and tell a story about it. When America was divided into 13 colonies on the East of the American continent, many groups were encouraged to cross North America's mountain ranges and the great plain and head West to discover new land and set up new colonies. Thus, they are labeled as pioneers. Most of these pioneers traveled in wagon trains or groups of many wagons containing settlers and their families, and they headed West to clear, claim new land, and explore new territories. These wagon trains banded together for the common defense and combined their efforts while traveling through the unknown.
