About this event

“Our eternal happiness will be in proportion to the way that we devote ourselves to helping others.”

George Albert Smith

We have chosen two charities which serve women particularly and one which gives end of life care to cancer patients.

SMALLS FOR ALL

A Scottish Charity which collects underwear to give to adults and children in need in Africa and the UK. In Africa help is given to those living in orphanages, slums, camps and schools.

“To ensure the underwear we collect is distributed to those who need it most, we work with a number of organisations. They help us to give all the brand new pants and bras we collect directly to the people who need our support, donating them for free. The ‘gently worn’ (laundered) bras we collect are also given to the women we help, as well as sold to family run recycling company LMB Textiles to help us raise the vital funds we need to support our work (running costs for our sorting premises). LMB send the bras they get from us to people in developing economies like Africa to help them earn an income by selling bras.”

Our Relief Society will be collecting just bras (new or gently worn) for this charity.

THE LIBERTY CENTRE

The charity has been established for over 30 years, starting off providing emergency refuge accommodation for women fleeing domestic violence and abuse. Over the years, further services have been added including supporting survivors of domestic abuse in the refuge, in their homes or in the community, supporting women and children, supporting male victims, offering counselling, providing legal support, doing preventative work, running support groups and offering training.

We will be collecting the following items for this charity:

Pens

Detergent wipes

Notebooks

Face cleansing wipes

Hair brushes/combs

Calpol

Hair accessories

Children’s underwear/socks

Women’s underwear

There will be collection boxes in the Cultural Hall on Sunday 6th, Sunday 13th, Sunday 20th  and Sunday 27 March. Also a member of the Relief Society Presidency can collect from you if you are unable to get to church on these days.

MARIE CURIE

Marie Curie Cancer Care is urgently calling for volunteers in Southport and Ormskirk (Morrisons) to give just 2 hours of their time to hand out daffodil pins in return for donations.

Volunteers are needed throughout March

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
